Work in Progress (WIP) Wednesday {28}

If you are looking for my Sew Mama Sew Giveaway, click here.

And speaking of which, let me just say I'm totally overwhelmed by all of you guys and the response I got to the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway!! It takes a lot for me to be speechless, but I really am! Normally I respond to all my posters, but with over 700 posts, I can't do it this time. Just know that I appreciate all of you who took the time to enter and especially those of you who became followers. Hopefully you'll like it enough around here to hang around!

For those of you who are new, Wednesdays are all about what's in progress in my sewing room. I like to try and share problems I'm having so I can get feedback and you can all learn from my mistakes. If you would rather see things that are actually complete, I've got links up top  for completed projects for 2011 and 2010. Feel free to poke around!

So, here's what's happening this week:

Finished:  Hopscotch knit dress

In Progress:
I started a baby quilt for my girlfriend who is due in July. I'd love to get your opinion on this. I'm making the "little man" pattern from Simplify. I need to choose my "neutral". I have this blue linen print:
The blues aren't an exact match but they are close enough to work and the linen adds some interest I think.
Option 2 is Kona Medium Gray:
It's a safe choice I'd say. Let me know which you prefer!

Also in progress this week are my curtains for our bedroom. Would you all be interested in a tutorial on basic drapes like this?

Last time I blogged about this I was having tension problems with my machine. Or so I thought. Turns out I had forgotten to put in a heavier needle. Once I switched to a Jeans Needle, everything was fine!

Here's the first panel on the floor. Why not on the curtain rod? See if you can tell...

The curtain rod is too close to the shears rod. I don't know why didn't hang the sheers with a pressure bar within the window. Either way I guess it doesn't matter. I lined the curtains with blackout fabric and they are HEAVY. So that little dinky curtain rod won't hold them anyway. I've got a heavier bar to try. Just need someone to hang them....

Another project in the works, my sister needs two new boppy pillow covers. Here are the fabric I've picked for the first one. I'll give more details on this process as I get further into it.

And always on my design wall - the Bird Bath blocks for my mom's king quilt. My spreadsheet (yes spreadsheet) tells me I have 17 done. Only approximately 55 more to go! I haven't fully decided on the size of the borders and such yet but that's a guesstimate for now.

In addition, I don't have any photos to show, but I've been doing some block and quilt designing. It's been fun to play around with some ideas I've had and I hope to be able to show it soon.

Waiting for my attention:
Amy Butler bag - i know - this has been waiting WAY too long!

Total WIP's this week:6

I'll be linking up with Lee at Freshly Pieced. Go see what everyone is up to this week.

I prefer option 1 for the baby quilt - I love the fresh, funky look of it for a baby. I look forward to seeing this one when it's done.

Regards, Sue.

I definitely like the first solid option - the blue linen. I really like the visual interest of the linen, and I also really like the shade of blue. Is it Essex linen? I love the fabric you picked for your curtains, can't wait to see them hanging up (after you fix your rod dilemma, of course!). Happy WiP Wednesday!

Oh my both options are great, I tend to be drawn to grey right if the bat, but the more I look at it the more the blue looks like a better choice for an adorable baby boy quilt. Yes please to a curtain tutorial!! This has seriously been on my to do list for ages!!

I really like the blue linen option...but the gray is fantastic too! I really don't think you can go wrong.
(I'm a lot of help, I know...)

The blue is great for a baby, but the gray might be the color to grow up with. The prints are more grown up.

I really like the blue, although Tina is right about the grey. Birdbath blocks--awesome.

Becky,I know I'm outnumbered, but I really like the grey option because 1. I'm immediately drawn to it, and 2. I think it REALLY let's the other fabric stand out and be noticed. I think the blue is beautiful, but the print fabrics seem to just fade into the background. With the grey I really noticed all the lovely shapes and patterns.

The blue is beautiful, but I really love the look of the grey! It will be a great baby quilt!

You're soo talented! Love looking at your creations! :) I love the blue linen best for a baby quilt... :)

I like the blue linen option! The gray certainly makes things pop, but it's also the safer choice. I think the blue linen will bring it to life when it's done!

I like your first option, the blue linen, it goes great with your fabric choices.

You've got a lot of beautiful projects going on, girly! For the baby quilt, I love the blue linen, it looks great. Sorry about your curtain-hanging issue - there's always some problem like that, isn't there? Thanks for linking up to WIP Wednesday. : )

I like the gray! And I love your bird blocks!!

From where I sit that blue is gorgeous! Boppy pillow are difficult to cover to say the least! Cute fabrics!

Hmmm...I think I like the grey, and I've heard linen is a bear to quilt with. I don't know from experience though, so don't take my word for it!

What did you decide about the light yellow on the birdbaths? You're definitely making some progress if you've already got 17 of them done - almost 1/4 of them done!

I just finnished a baby quilt with those fabrics. I would have chosen the grey one. Or a fabric picking up the pale yellow in the dotted fabric. Looking forward to seing the finnished quilt.

I'm all for the blue one, I think it is a bit more cheerful. And wow, a king size quilt! I'm a little scared of something so big...

I don't think you can go wrong with either option and I'm not really sure which I prefer...probably the blue, marginally! Your curtains look lovely too!

What fun curtains and I look the first choice best.

I'm a new follower. Thank you for signing up for giveaway day. I find so many inspiring blogs!

I'm a big fan of the gray. Your curtains are inspiring. I think my spare bedroom needs a new set.

Dang woman, you're big time now! I get excited when I get 7 comments on a post, LOL! Don't forget us little people when you're a big famous blogger, okay?

I really like the gray fabric for the quilt. I thought I'd like the blue better, but the gray seems to fit more.

Both are nice, but I like the first 1 - jmho! :o)

Love the curtains!

I love the grey fabric for the first project.

I am also in love with your curtains!

Leanne said...

I really like the blue better but the grey is also wonderful! Those look like great curtains too.

I like the blue. It brightens it while the gray seems to anchor it more; the gray give it more weight while the blue lightens it and makes it a bit more airy.

Lynette said...

Didja pick the blue already? ;D Most definitely like it better. It's perfect that the blues don't match EXACTLY, because there's more dimension that way. They match enough to coordinate very nicely.
