3x6 blocks and a paint choice

After my embarrassment at picking the same blocks as one of my fellow bee members, I decided I wanted to try out Jaybird Quilts Carnival Pattern for my blocks. I posted the other day that I wasn't sure about the border I had done. Julie (the Jaybird herself) suggested a small white border and then the colored border. Of course - she was right! I had done some with a solid white border before that. Here are my results:

What do you think!? I think I'm ready to make the full quilt now!

I also realized that during yesterdays WIP  post, I forgot to give an update on my big bathroom project! I had taken pictures and everything. So for those interested here's where it's at:
I've got the paint samples up on the wall. The dark one is Coastal Villa which Cindy suggested to me. Then I have two lighter shades of grey (one not photographed). Let me stress, this powder room is tiny. I think it's about 3' by 5'? So it's hard to get a good photo! Anyone have experience with a dark color in a small room? Love it/hate it?

The paint samples are carefully spaced around holes that are being spackled. Somehow the plaster just seems to be eating up the spackle. I fill it and it only plugs part of it! Plaster is different than drywall, I've never had this issue before. And hubby needs to get some of the wallpaper that's in a position I can't reach. So we've got a bit of time to decide on the paint. In the meantime, all guests using the powder room will need to pick their favorite color!

I love your bee blocks with the contrasting order. I a powder room is a great opportunity to try something a little out of the ordinary and more dramatic. I vote dark.

I painted my bathroom with a dark color too and i love it. it's like a dark chocolate coco brown with white trim. i was totally scared to do it- but i still love it.

Either of the paint colors can work. If you go with the dark one and you think it's too dark, just hang some things on the wall to cover parts of it up and that will take care of the problem nicely!

I agree with Felicity on both counts. :)

I love that block! I agree with previous posters, either color I think would be great! I always tend to go lighter, especially in such a small space, but like others said you can always rely on decorations to lighten up the darker color!

I think they look great. As I said on flickr, my favorite is definitely the last one. The border you chose is perfect.

I think I like the lighter gray better.

I'm making Carnival blocks right now too. They are so much fun! I'm doing a 9-block wall hanging for my Mom for Mother's Day, but then I'm making myself a whole Carnival quilt (Central Park!). Good luck with the painting. I tend to like darker color myself.

Oh I love these blocks, especially the one with the blue and orange fabric border. As for the wall color, I like them both and think you can't go wrong with either but maybe that lighter one will make the room feel bigger?
