The powder room is finished!

Back in April of 2011 I posted about our horrible powder room downstairs. We had just moved into this house and had inherited this lovely bathroom. After many delays, it is finally finished so I have a few before and after photos to share!

Here it was in all it's glory. This is 3 of the 4 wallpapers that I had to strip from that wall.

The 4th was down here.

The update (disclosure - I have since gotten a wide angle lens and can get more of the room in the shot):

The wall color is Valspar Notre Dame from Lowe's.  I know Grey is trendy and I'll probably not like it in 10 yrs. But I had pink tile to deal with and the room outside this is the trendy dark red of the 90's which I'm not repainting just yet. And besides, the room is like 3'x5' so I can repaint it quickly! For now, I love it.

Here's the other side before.

And the update:

ahhh!! Country flowers be gone!

Here's a close up of my valance that I made.

The only thing not done is I want hubby to get shades for the window. It's an odd size window because it's pretty old and he hasn't liked anything I've picked up. So, that will be done eventually. For now I'm calling this room done!

I'm a curtain making machine

Or really, a valance making machine!  Nothing like having company over to get you to do those projects you keep avoiding right? I finally tackled my kitchen curtains. Here's a before picture from when we were moving in. (And when my external flash still was synced properly - anyone know how to sync an external flash???)

Swag-a-rific right? Not to mention there was a layer of dust so thick on them, it was disgusting.

Here's the window now. (see, lights not so great without my external flash. boo)

I used this tutorial again (which I highly recommend), Amy Butler and Kona Solid for the fabrics. And I also learned that sew in velco is half the price at Joann's than it is at AC Moore. Go figure. Close up of the valance.

This now lives in harmony with the curtains I did for the small window. (Oh, and my SUTK potholders too).

And on the other corner the covered canvases I blogged about the other day.

Slowly but surely the house is starting to feel more like my house. Only 3 more rooms to make/finish curtains for!

Searching for my mojo

I haven't had much to post lately. Mostly because there isn't a lot getting done around here. I can't lie, I think it's still pregnancy related. Honestly, it's hard to get a lot of sewing done when you much prefer to take a nap! I don't know why I'm still so sleepy. At 16 weeks I thought I'd be a lot more energetic.

I also had a weekend trip to visit family in Florida (the Weekender bag does fit under an airplane seat if squished a bit).  And my daughter had a traumatic start to preschool. So that's taken up quite a bit of my energy and attention. I'm hoping with PMQG starting back up this month I'll get inspired to work again. What do you do get your creative juices going?

There has been some sewing. I've got the top done for the do.Good Stitches quilt. I wasn't paying enough attention apparently when I laid this one out. It wound up really long and skinny so I added some solid borders to two sides to help even it out. The top is zig-zagged like the bottom but almost impossible to hold up. I will get better photos when I finish it!

And since I posted about my mantle drama previously, I thought I'd show the final result. I managed to find something I like better than my old print and hubby can deal with (thank you Home Goods). I hope to change out the flowers and candles seasonally.

Hope you all are having a great Labor Day weekend. I'm off to take another nap. Night night!
