I may have signed myself up for too much this year! The swaps I am part of are about to start so I'm trying to get other things done to make room for them. I am having fun with it though and really, I work best "under pressure". Ha ha! So here's what I'm up to this week.
My king size quilt has been fully pieced and I just took it to UPS to send to the quilter yesterday. Oh it makes me so nervous to send these things! Thank goodness for package tracking!
Work as begun on the Postage Stamp Quilt-a-long at PS I Quilt. I'm using Central Park and Kona White. Right now I'm feeling a little like a sweat shop worker piecing all these strips! I do love this line a lot. I liked it enough to buy a jelly roll obviously, but after unrolling it - I really love every fabric in it. And I love that there are enough color variations to do a sort of rainbow effect on this quilt.
I've got all my fabrics picked out for the Sliced Coin Quilt-a-long with Don't Call Me Betsy. This is almost an all stash quilt - which of course I'm trying to do more of this year. I got a stack of these yellow and black prints from a fat quarter swap and have since grew the collection since it's hard to mix with other prints (at least I haven't seen it). I don't usually pre-wash my fabrics, but I'm going to do these because of the dark colors and the white solid. I wouldn't want this to run after being done.
This poor quilt still sits in the box. It may have to wait until we move. I don't have any place to lay it out at the moment. The floors are covered in boxes. Oh and pillows since my daughter has decided to make a fort!
So that brings me to my curiosity question of the week. Tell me about your design wall. I keep seeing fun design walls on blog-land and I'm totally jealous. Where is yours (where did you find a wall without furniture or windows!)? Is up all the time or removable? How did you make it? If you've blogged about it - post a link, I'd love to read it.

Your postage stamp quilt is coming along beautifully! I agree, I love the color palette in Central Park so much. I love your stack for the quilt along! I'm getting really excited about getting started next week :)
Too funny that this week's question is about a design wall - I just posted about mine in my WiP post today. I previously would just throw a sheet on the floor and use the floor, but I treated myself to a 50% Fons & Porter design wall a few weeks ago that my husband just hung this weekend. I. Love. It. Can't believe I ever lived without it. It has grommet hooks for hanging at the top, which is nice. I think it's 60" wide, and the wall next to my desk is 58", so I put it there. Sure, it hangs over the window a smidgen, but I don't mind. And my desk covers up some of it, but that's okay with me. I hope this helps!
You have some great projects going on! I also love the postage stamp quilt. I have considered it. For my design wall, I literally just put up a large piece of felt with push pins. Those holes are easy to fill when I end up taking it down. I do have one wall about 8" wide at the end of our family room without windows. I really love having it right there where I sew. Good luck figuring it out.
Wow, your WIPs look great! I'm also doing psiquilts quilt along, and literally sat for half an hour with Central Park and Its a Hoot jelly rolls in my checkout basket because I could not decide which to choose! I ended up picking the Its a Hoot, but I think i need to get some Central Park as well in the future! As for my design wall, I bought it at Joann's...its a Fons and Porter, I think? I had one of those 40% off coupons so it was dirt cheap, seriously one of the best quilting purchases I've made though! Found you on WIP wednesday!
You have so much great stuff going on! I love your rainbow effect in the postage stamp quilt along - it's gorgeous!
My design wall is one from Fon's and Porter that I ordered from Amazon. Sound like I have the same on Elizabeth mentioned in her earlier post. I currently use our formal dining room for sewing, so I used some small clear command hooks and hung my design wall on those. That way there are no holes in the wall, plus the command hooks don't cause any wall damage. Its also then completely removable in just a few seconds if I need to. Luckily there is a big enough wall in the dining room!
Ohh I love all of your projects, I don't know where to start! :) That Kate Spain is great, I think I am going to have to order some. And your choices for the quilt along look great! As far as a design wall, I actually just use a white flannel sheet on a wall across from my sewing area. It works just fine for me. Happy WiP Wednesday!
My design wall is a flannel backed plastic table cloth that I hang on the front of a book case, flannel out. It is held to the trim along the top with clothespins and is easily removed. I can't spare a wall for a more permanent solution. Lane
I love the Central Park fabric.
I put up a design wall when we moved into this house and I really don't know how i lived without one before. I have a sewing area in the basement and just tacked up a fuzzy backed plastic table cloth (like you would find at the dollar store) on the wall. It isn't particularly classy and I don't know that I would make the same choice if it was to be hung in the living room, but it was fast and cheap.
Good luck with your move!
Wow, lots of nice WIPs here! Can't wait to see the progress!
My design wall is just a flannel sheet nailed to the wall. Interesting from a home decor perspective, but I don't know how I lived without it for so long. And yes, it was challenging finding a wall with enough space. I finally realized I could get rid of a bunch of home office stuff that I was no longer using, including a giant desktop computer that was about 6 years old and hadn't been touched in at least 2. To the basement it went, and ta da, space for a design wall! : ) So I guess my advice is, look around and make sure you're REALLY using your space in the best way possible.
I'm swooning over Central Park. I need to order some tonight! I have a portable design wall because there is not a free wall in the whole house! I taped together some foam core boards, leaving a gap at the joints so I can fold it up, and covered the whole thing with flannel. I can set it up wherever I need it, and put it right next to the machine when I'm ready to piece.
Gorgeous start you got going there! Thanks for sharing!
Love that stack for your Sliced Coin!
I do not have a design wall, I use me floor and I do not even use a sheet, just straight down on the floor :)
Your stacked coin quilt is going to be great with those colors. I still haven't figured out my colors yet with my stash. Here is a link to the design wall that I am going to be making this spring: http://issuu.com/mirkwooddesigns/docs/design-wall
Nice choices of fabrics for your projects!! The black/grey/yellow is fabulous! And I like the looks of that last lonely WiP - pink and green make me happy.
My design wall is a 'flannel'-backed vinyl tablecloth ($5 or so) - it grips the fabric really nicely. I mount it on the wall near my sewing desk using old sewing machine needles jammed in the wall. They don't make very big holes. I tend to leave it up even though it's pretty much directly in view of the front door. I may actually wrap it around some foam core so that I don't have to keep looking at the raw edges.
After reading all of the comments on this post, I made a design wall decision myself! I got the Fons and Porter design wall from JoAnn's. I had a coupon so it was about $14. It's pretty large, so I have it folded in half on the wall. When I need to have more space for a bigger project, I can just unfold it. I used nails to hang it on. It has grommets so it was easy to see where to space them. It's actually hanging behind the door to our office/sewing room/catch all room. If you didn't know, you wouldn't even notice it. I'm really happy with the purchase. I recommend it!
i can't wait to see your parisville quilt finished!
