WIP Wednesday {35}

Okay, I seem to be getting back into the swing of things and have a bunch of stuff to talk about this week. And I remembered why I do so many projects at once instead of focusing on one at a time.

Burnout!

After doing another 12 of these birdbath blocks I was ready to move on to something else. Thankfully, I'm DONE! No more of these blocks for me! I got started doing my layout. I have 9 extra blocks for the back. Keep in mind this is just the center of the quilt. Once I get these together and get the final measurements I have to decide on how many and how thick to make the borders.

I did start another little project this week. I saw on someone's blog that they were using their Petit Four for hexagons. I can't remember who it was so if it was you, give me a shout out and I would love to give you credit because the idea is genius! I have a Petit Four of Circa 1934 and I decided to use them for hexagons. I love having some hand work when I'm stuck watching Sesame Street at 6am! Now tell me, what should I do with the hexagons? A pillow, an apron, mini quilt?

And I got done my curtains for the dining room but this is still technically a WIP because hubby needs to hang the board for it. I'm a little too clutzy at this point in my pregnancy to be climbing ladders. Seriously.

I also did an initial fabric pull for my son's quilt! I've been hoarding my Neptune for something special and I think this qualifies. So I pulled a lot of Neptune and Prince Charming. The only thing I'm wondering about is the yellows on the top of this pile (the Prince Charming). Would you leave it in for contrast or is it just too different from the rest?

The idea right now is to do Jaybird Quilt's Fast Forward pattern with a Navy or Charcoal background. Technically her patterns use precuts, but I haven't found a jelly roll where I like the whole roll enough yet so I'll just cut my own strips. That's why I pulled so many fabrics.

And for now, I'm also piling up my work for Fridays PMQG sewing night. Probably going to focus on my neglected Double Wedding Ring. Exciting to have a little social sewing time, and maybe do a little boy fabric shopping. Btw - did I mention that I am now the Vice President for the Philly Modern Quilt Guild. Well, only until February when Anna Ziegner will take over for the rest of the year. Looking forward to helping the Guild grow!

Lee is back this week, so head over to Freshly Pieced to link up your own Works In Progress!

You've been busy! I love the colors on the birdbath blocks and love the block! Is there a pattern for it? Great job on everything!

WTG on your birdbaths, and love those hexies and your curtain fabric.

As for the quilt, hmm, not convinced by that yellow I have to admit, but it may look different when it's all laid out?

the birdbath blocks are awesome, where might i find a tutorial/pattern for such a block? also, love me some tula pink. i met her a few weeks ago when i went and shopped at her mother's quilt shop. we gabbed for like an hour! anyways, i think it will work for contrast. who knows though, but i'd go for it!

Those birdbaths look AMAZING! Love the fabrics you pulled for new baby boy's quilt, I like all the colors, I think in the grand scheme of things the yellow will blend nicely, I don't think you can go wrong either by leave it in, or taking it out (sorry, absolutely no help, I know!)

Love the birdbath blocks. For some reason I keep seeing the ones edged in black going diagonally across the quilt, but however you do it will be gorgeous. Your little hexies are so gorgeous!

No more Bird baths!!! Woohoo! That is going to be such an amazing quilt! I like the idea of the hexies out of your little pack of the Circa fabrics. I LOVE that line. Also, on your SON's quilt (congrats again, by the way!), I think the yellow works with the other fabrics.

I love the Neptune/Prince Charming stack! That's going to look great in the Fast Forward pattern. I vote to keep the yellow.

That is a wonderful stack of fabric for your son's quilt... definitely keep the yellow, it adds pop to the rest of it, otherwise, too mono. The tiny hexies would make an adorable mini quilt. Who knows, someday you might need a dolly quilt!

I like that bird bath quilt. The colors are fantastic. What fabric lines or color ways did you use? I also have been eyeballing circa 1934, so its good to see someone else using it.

Nice job on the birdbath quilt! Now to get my hands on a copy of Elizabeth Hartman's The Practical Guide to Patchwork!

I just found your blog because you used the 1934 collection and I was looking at images of it for ideas. I thought I'd throw in two cents on your Prince/Neptune quilt as I'm about to start working on a quilt for my baby girl, due in December. I like the yellow in theory because Neptune, God of the Seas, would have had some yellow reflecting on the surface of the ocean if he was in a good mood. As such, I vote Yes for the contrasting color. However, I might throw in one or two strips with a tying-in effect, where a navy/yellow or teal/yellow combination in another fabric would allow for a little more transition.
