Charity Quilt Auction

This quilt will be going up for silent auction to support Doylestown Hospital Hospice and Cancer Institute. Every year the employees donate baskets of items for the Circle of Life Auction. Our department pulled together a "Warm and Cozy" basket featuring my quilt. It also includes a bottle of wine, chocolates and fuzzy slippers. This year, they've added electronic bidding so you don't even need to attend the auction to bid!  This means, if you are interested in bidding on my quilt, you can do so right here!! It's item #1004 from Doylestown Hospital Administration. (please ignore the terrible photo, they posted a picture of the back of the quilt! It will be displayed in person). The bidding site gives you the capability to put in a minimum and maximum bid and it will increase your bids for you.

 

The fabrics are all high quality quilt shop cottons. Mainly Joel Dewberry's Birch Farm line. I mixed in some Art Gallery and the background is Kona Raffia. 

Quilted by me on my friend Denise's long arm. I love the added softness the swirls give!

The backing is all the hydrangea print because it was my favorite in the line.

I made this quilt in queen size before in different fabrics and loved how it turned out. That version lives on my guest bed and is still one of my favorites. I was excited to try it again in different colors and I'm really happy with how it turned out. If you like it too, please consider placing a bid! What i understand is that the bidding will work like other online bid sites where you can place a starting and maximum bid and it will increase your bid as others bid so you have nothing to lose!

Flowering Snowball Finish

If you follow me on Instagram (@myfabricobsession) you've seen pictures of this quilt. This is my absolute favorite quilt and now hangs in my office so I can look at it all day!

 The pattern is called flowering snowball and I was hooked once I saw this quilt. I still want to do a version like that, but it takes much more thought than this one!

Then Mary at Molly Flanders hosted a quilt along and I had to join in! I wound up not being able to keep up with her schedule due to other commitments. But she had some great information there. She goes over different ways to create this quilt, provides templates and resources for buying templates. And, she shows how different colors can affect the secondary patterns.

I wound up buying templates for my version here at Baycreek Quilting. Mine are the 8" finished block. I'm kind of regretting it now because since then I've acquired a Go! cutter and they have a die for this pattern! Ah, c'est la vie. I will say, the ruler templates were nice to have because the pieces are so small. I could still use my rotary cutter. I would imagine without them you would have to scissor cut.

And the fabrics are all Joel Dewberry Birch Farm. Except for the "background" which is Kona Raffia.

I used one of my favorite prints with hydrangea on the back.

And pieced in my label per usual!

The binding is the same print I used in the center stones of the block. Those center stones are so small, you can't see it much so I thought I'd use it for the binding as well.

Chopsticks Finished

This pattern is one of the greats. It's called Chopsticks and is by Jaybird Quilts. Why do I say it's a great pattern? For one thing, Julie always makes her patterns so easy to follow with great diagrams. There is no 'trying to figure it out'. It's so easy! The other reason is that if you do a google search for this pattern you will see it in so many colors. You can't go wrong, all fabrics look great with this pattern!!

Mine was made with Joel Dewberry's Bungalow. I fell in love with this line immediately and knew I needed to make something just for me!

Of course when I was laying it out to baste it, both my kids wanted to lay claim to it!  I think my daughter may have wanted it for the backing. I used flannel on this one and the color screams Anna from Frozen (at least to me!).

You can really see my straight line quilting on the back with that flannel. What I wound up doing was dividing the triangle into equal parts and then stitching a quarter inch from the edges. I think it gave it a nice texture.

I used up my scraps for a scrappy binding.

I will definitely be making another Chopsticks!

A special wedding gift!

I just finished and photographed my Metro Lattice quilt from Sew Kind of Wonderful. This quilt is going to be a wedding quilt for my nephew who is getting married next weekend.

They are in their early 20's and so I wanted to find something with a cooler vibe for them. I thought this was appropriate since it is a new twist on the Double Wedding Ring.

I found out that the bride's favorite color is purple so I went with my favorite Joel Dewberry line so far, Bungalow. Mixed it with a kona purple (I don't remember which one!) and a kona snow and voila!!

My lovely friend Denise had me over to her place to long arm this quilt. I'm so addicted to long arming, I love how fast it is and the great results. Here are some shots of the quilting I chose. I love the secondary pattern that looks like a heart.

I have to say, I love how this pattern came together. This is my second quilt with the Quick Curve Ruler and I love the detail they put into their pattern writing. Everything is clear and easy to follow and leads to such impressive results (in my option).

I went with the blue color on the front for the backing. I found this print from ModKid at Joann's and I loved it so much I did the entire back in it with my label pieced within.

And the binding is one of my favorite prints from Bungalow. Cut on the bias it makes a really fun binding.

I hope the newlyweds love it as much as I do! I'm having a hard time parting with it!
