Giveaway Day - Sew Mama Sew Style

Yay! It's giveaway day! I missed the last one and was bummed about it. But this time I'm fully prepared. Welcome to all of you visiting, I've got what I think is a great giveaway for you.

Last time I was at my local quilt shop, Sew Smart Fabrics, I picked up this great fat quarter bundle of Flea Market Fancy. It's 8 fat quarters of the re-release.

And what is that around it? That is one of the awesome rainbow zippers that I used for this beachy bag. (Bag not part of giveaway!)

I got so many compliments on that zipper that I thought I would include one in my giveaway.

To enter:

Leave me a comment telling me what your favorite fabric line is right now or coming soon. (cause I need some enablers to help me shop!) For the record, I'm really looking forward to Heaven and Helsinki by Patty Young and of course Birds and Bees by Tula Pink.

Giveaway will be open until May 25, 8pm EST. It is open internationally. Make sure I have a way to contact you if your email is not in your profile. I will use Random Generator to pick my winner.

Good luck and thank you for stopping by! The rest of the giveaways are here...

A little celebratory giveaway

The other day I realized I missed my blogaversary at the beginning of this month. It's been one year for my little blog and I still can't believe I actually have people who come and read what I have to say! I appreciate all of you who stop in to read my ramblings so I thought I'd do a little giveaway to show my appreciation.

At the same time, Monday is my big ultrasound where I found out the gender of my baby (provided they cooperate!). So in honor of that I'm giving away two fat quarter stacks.

A pink one:

And a blue one:

Here's what you do:

Leave me a comment and tell me what your favorite fabric line right now is for a boy or girl quilt (a little market research for my own selfish purposes). You do need to be or become a follower (sorry, it's a follower appreciation giveaway!). And if you want, you can guess if I'm having a boy or girl.

One entry per person and I will pick two winners. If you are a no-reply blogger, please make sure I have a way to reach you.

I'll be closing the giveaway on Monday at 2pm, eastern time and I'll announce the winners shortly after.

My crash and burn during KCWC

Disclaimer: I wrote this on Thursday, a day in which I spent a good amount of time at a toddler party, got seriously head-banged and got a sunburn. I might have been crabby.

I mentioned before that I had started making this Oliver + S pattern in knit for Kids Clothing Week Challenge. This was my first time working with knit. I decided to go with the dress since I had enough fabric.

I wanted to give an update on what’s been happening with this project. First off, I’ve also never worked with an Oliver + S pattern. My first tip for you - the layout diagram for cutting your pattern pieces is actually on the pattern piece rather than in the instructions. It took me longer than I want to admit to figure that out!

For the first time I used Dressmakers Tracing Paper to trace the pattern right onto my fabric without having to cut the pattern pieces. I only used this for some of the pieces since she was the largest size I wasn’t “ruining” the piece by cutting it out.  This stuff worked pretty well. You place it between the cloth and the pattern and it works like carbon paper. You do have to press SUPER hard to get a dark enough mark, but it worked and I was happy with the results.

I was also referred to this link on Sew Mama Sew for information on working with knits. It was super helpful and I encourage anyone interested in working with knits to read it. Things started off really smoothly.

I used Stitch 8 on my Bernina for sewing the pieces together. Here’s what my seams looked like on the inside.

Everything worked really well until I had to do the hemming of the dress and sleeves. I used my "Steam A Seam",  got my double stretch needle out and fixed all my settings, but I still had this problem.

I asked on flickr and was encouraged to get the wooly nylon thread.  Apparently Joann’s doesn’t carry it. I got the Bulky Nylon thread to try since it had a stretchiness to it. It’s gotten mixed reviews on the web  but I figured I would try it anyway. I got good results when I did it on my test fabric. But look what happened when I did it on my real hem.

ARGH!

I’m so done with this project. I was really proud of what I had finished. Here’s how it stands right now.

And isn’t the neckline so cute?

And I'll tell you, that fabric is as soft as can be. I was having dreams of making myself some pj pants until this.

I just need to finish the freakin’ edges! What was supposed to be a quick project has turned out to be 3 days of stress. Anyone have ideas? I'm thinking maybe just doing a single straight line rather than the double needle?

In the meantime, I’ve rethreaded my machine - need to make a big push to get my kona challenge done for Tuesday’s PMQG Meeting.

Fun for me and fun for you! {Giveaway}

Sorry if you want to sing the Xfinity song after reading my title. If you don't know what I'm talking about, consider yourself lucky. It's an annoying jingle that I'll probably sing all day now! You're welcome.

I have finally hit my 100th post! And as promised I am going to do a little giveaway to thank you all for reading my little blog. BUT first, to make this little milestone even more exciting for me, I found out Lindsay of Linz Sews nominated me for the Stylish Blogger award! YAY! {by the way, how adorable is that header picture on her blog? talk about stylish blogging!}
I'm so honored that she picked me. :) As a recipient of the award, I need to do a few things:

A. Thank the person who nominated me and link to them. check
B. Share 7 things about myself. Okay, here goes:
  1. My husband and I met when he found my lost wallet in the work parking lot and returned it to me.
  2. I can play piano. As a high school kid I won lots of competitions. Sadly I quit and my skill level never progressed.
  3. I have a terrible sweet tooth. It is the downfall of all my weight loss efforts. I can't resist a piece of chocolate and was known to hide my Halloween candy as a child (ahem - never as an adult)
  4. I'm a brain surgery survivor. I had an AVM removed in 2004. It changed my whole outlook on life.
  5. I have a terrible memory. Nothing to do with number 4, I swear! I think that's why I'm such a list person. It's also what brought me to the hobbies of scrapbooking and blogging.
  6. I am the mother of a 2 1/2 year old girl Samantha.
  7. I am the middle child of 3 girls. And as a classic middle child always looking for attention.
C. Nominate 6 recently discovered bloggers. *since I have such a terrible memory, I can't remember when I started following all these bloggers but I think they are new to me. In my defense I have 204 that I'm following (gasp!) :
  1. Ali at A-squared(w)
  2. Ulrike at Crumbles of Creativity
  3. Jessica at Scrap N' Happy
  4. Michelle at City House Studio
  5. Sarah at Fairy Face Designs
  6. Bree at My Crafty Crap

And now on to what you've come here for... Interested in winning 2 charm packs of Central Park by Kate Spain (quilt not included)?

I'll be giving away these two charm packs of Central Park to one person. It's my favorite line out right now. Here's what you need to do. Leave me a comment and tell me what your favorite current or upcoming fabric line is. OR - tell me your favorite tutorial for using only one charm pack (I have some strays that I don't know what to do with).

I'm keeping this simple with one entry per person, you don't have to be a follower, but that would be great if you wanted to be one! The giveaway will be open until midnight eastern time on Friday, 4/15 **Giveaway is closed** and I will pick the winner randomly on Saturday. Good luck!
The winner is here.
