Modern Dahlia

I don't think I ever blogged about this little quilt finish.

 

This was for a swap that the Philly Modern Quilt Guild did at the Fall Retreat.  The challenge was for everyone to take a traditional block and 'make it modern'.

 

The pattern is Dahlia by April Rosenthal. And I was be honest, it's not for beginners. It uses templates, or she sells acrylic templates. There is a lot of hand prep before piecing. I was already working on a number of these for myself so I had a bit of practice before doing this one!

 

The back shows the quilting which I am most proud of! I basically followed the curves of the front and extended them off the quilt and it made this awesome pattern.

We did our swap at the retreat by pulling numbers from a hat and Nicole got my quilt. I'll take some pictures and post the amazing mini that I relieved later!

A Poppy Wall hanging

I won't have much to say about this little quilt except that I love it and will be making another!

The pattern is Poppy from the book Simply Fat Quarters by It's Sew Emma. It was so easy and quick to put together.

I made this with Chicopee by Denyse Schmidt and a couple pieces from my stash.

 I've been wanting to do this quilting design and this piece was finally small enough. I think it was the perfect treatment.

Here is the  back before I put the hanging sleeve on it. I'm taking this one to work!

Ornate Mini Wall hanging

A while ago I posted asking for help picking colors for my Ornate Mini wall hanging. I'm sorry, it's been done for a while but I took it to work to hang and forgot to take photos. I finally remembered to bring it back and photograph it for you all.

Actually, I made two of them. The first one I used the colors overwhelmingly chosen by you guys.

I really love how it turned out, but at 18" square it was a bit small for the wall I wanted to hang it on. So I enlarged it by 15% and picked some brighter colors.

I really love how this turned out too and I'm so happy to have it to look at all day in my office!
