Whoops!

Okay, I'm all about sharing my mistakes as well as my successes. Yesterday I made a big boo boo and I found it pretty funny actually.

First off, let me say that I hate making curtains. And I've made over a dozen for our new house. I've been putting off the bay window in the great room for about a year now. Because really, who wants to make a 6 foot valance??

Yesterday I decided to finally just do it. Here is my end result.

Here are the valances in the rest of the room...

Do you see what's wrong?

I didn't notice until I was sitting down about 10 mins after hanging the big one. Yup, this is what happens when you wait a year to finish a project.

I though - oh, I have enough fabric to just use the length and not have to patch it all together. Whoops. The rest of the curtains are all cut on the width.

Guess I've got a date with my seam ripper tonight.

  3. I actually think it looks better going that direction on the long window. They are both great.

  4. i don't think it's a bad thing! it adds a little bit of interest! it doesn't look sloppy- if it did, i'd say get out your seam ripper. but it actually looks nice.

  5. Oops! That's something I would do! Are you really going to re-do it???

  6. I'd just leave it the way it is and say that's what you intended to do all along. Adds a bit of interest to the room!!!

  7. You're an ARTIST. Take some license! Everyone is way too busy looking at your cute kids to notice the darned valence anyway.

  8. It's not a mistake, it's a feature... plus I actually prefer version 2 (sorry)

  10. No way would I change it. I hate that kind of sewing to begin with so I would avoid redoing it at all costs!

  11. I wouldn't have even noticed unless you said something. I still think they look fab and you don't need to change a thing.

  12. I wouldn't change it! I like the stripe running across the long length of the window!

  13. Hey Becky, I wanted you to know that I made a quilt after being struck with your purple quilt. I blogged about it today. : )

  14. oh no! that is so frustrating!!! are you planning on remaking them? if you don't care then i would say leave it but if it is going to drive you crazy every time you look at them, i would say make them again. i know i have made mistakes like that before that i just didn't care about and others i just had to redo.

  15. I wouldn't change it if you haven't already! I think they look really nice, and I'm impressed with your dedication!

  16. I really like both valances! And if you can live with it, I would definitely say leave it!

  17. The difference is evident, but just say that's how you meant to do it, and be done with the job!
