Just One Star Challenge

Moda has started a Just One Star Challenge to send 100 quilts in 100 day to the soldiers by flag day, June 14th. They have put up a free pattern and are asking people to complete one block and send it to them. It took me less than 30 minutes to put this one together. Do you have 30 minutes to spare? New fun stuff

I have a lot of supplies left from my long neglected hobby of scrapbooking.  I recently dusted off my Silhouette and got some heat transfer material to make some onesies for my sisters upcoming baby shower.

Let me tell you, this stuff is so fun and super addictive. I've made a bunch of these, but I'm going to keep them under wraps since I know my mom reads these and I'd like to keep them a surprise. But next up is the fabric interfacing so I can cut fabric. If this turns out to be as easy as the heat transfer I'm going to be in trouble! I already need to get more onesies!

 In other news, I was super lucky and won two charm packs of Hushabye from KT. I'm super excited to have this. I missed Hushabye and I love it! I'm thinking a baby quilt may be in the works with this fabric.
I've also realized that I'm coming up on 100 posts. I think that will be occasion for me to do my first giveaway!

I also managed to get done the top of my sisters baby quilt! I'll get some detail shots once I get it quilted.

Monochromatic quilt finished and entered

We had our Philly Modern Quilt Guild meeting on Tuesday night and everyone showed off their monochromatic quilts. They will be posted here soon.

I posted this photo a while back as my collection of fabrics to be used for the Monochromatic Quilt Challenge. Looking at this picture now, I must say this has got to be the most over-thought quilt I've ever done! I had an original plan, scrapped it and went bigger. I changed color ideas a billion times in my mind. I went from solids to prints and back to solids. The one constant was that I knew I wanted to work with half square triangles. So where did it end up?

Here's my final quilt for the Monochromatic Quilt Challenge. I've been calling it The Windmill because it's essentially a giant pinwheel. The thing I had the hardest time determining (which is so silly) was which way does this pinwheel spin. {i think i may have gotten it wrong but we'll overlook that}

Close up of the quilting. I couldn't decide on a blue for the quilting so I did a variegated Caribbean blue thread and did within the triangles.

The back is totally random pieces of scraps. I don't think I have any scraps left over from this one!

WIP Wednesday {18}

Happy WIP Wednesday!  I did manage to complete one project this week. This little Peasant Top Blouse for my daughter.

Most of my time this week has been spent on this baby quilt for my sister. The shower is in about 3 weeks and I have lot of other stuff in mind that I'd love to make for her! I've been thinking I might quilt this with wavy quilting from side to side. What do you think, how would you quilt this?

Somehow this little project snuck to the forefront too! This Cameo just seems like she wants to be front and center in a hoop. I'm going to see what I can do with her. If I like the results she may just be another little gift for my Make Mine Modern Partner.  I have to pick up a few more supplies though to do what I want!

My fabric organization has come to a halt since I ran out of the boards. Gasp! I really have more fabric than I thought!

 I also managed to pull out Samantha's quilt and get started piecing it. It's been bothering me that this one has been on the WIP list for so long. And it was weird to work on it since I didn't remember anything about it! It was like having a kit all cut and ready for me. Sorry for such a bad photo. It is too long to fit on my design wall.

How about another quilt a long?

I had promised myself that I wasn't going to take on any more projects until  few of my WIP's are finished, but this quilt is really cool so I'm joining in! It's always much more fun to quilt with a group, so go visit Lee's blog and join in with us! She'll be posting fabric requirements tomorrow.

A little shirt

I had posted this WIP on Wednesday for the first time. One of my goals this year was to actually make stuff from the books that I have. Since the weather is starting to warm, I'm definitely thinking about clothing for my little munchkin.
I needed a break from all the tiny pieces of the baby quilt I'm doing so I thought I'd get this shirt together. Let me tell you - by the end of one of these shirts you'll be an expert on ruffles!

Unfortunately, my daughter isn't so much into dress up or trying on clothing so I haven't gotten this on her yet. I asked her if she wanted to try it on and she said, "never".  Nice. I will try and get a photo soon!
As far as the book "Little Girls, Big Style",  I'd give it high marks. You do need a little bit of clothing sewing experience I'd say. There aren't a lot of photos of what you should be doing. BUT, her section on how to do ruffles is very detailed. As it should be since I think every pattern in there has ruffles!  This went together differently than any other pattern I've done, but I liked it and it was quick and easy.

do. Good Stitches block and some progress

I was able to get my do.Good Stitches blocks together for March. These were based off of Melissa's Sugar Pop and Change tutorial on Happy Quilting.

These were fun to put together and I'll have to remember this patter - i think this would be great for a scrap quilt.

I've also started working full force on my sister's baby quilt. It has to be done by April 9th to make it in time for the shower. Look at all those itty bitty pieces! eeekk! It's been a while since I've done such a detailed quilt.
